The Queen's cause of death has been revealed
Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 96 years old on 9 September, the Queen's death certificate has been made public, revealing the cause of her passing. According to the document, which lists the royal's occupation as 'Her Majesty The Queen', Britain's longest reigning monarch died of natural causes – and therefore the cause of her death has been recorded as 'old age'. This is the same cause cited on her husband Prince Philip's death certificate last spring.
The death certificate also confirms Her Majesty's place of death as Balmoral Castle and the time as 3:10PM, along with her marital status as 'widowed'. The Queen's only daughter, Princess Anne, is named as the 'informant' on the document (meaning she would have been the one to notify a local registrar of Her Majesty's passing), which was released by National Records of Scotland.
Queen Elizabeth II and Anne, Princess Royal, were known to share an incredibly close bond. After her mother passed away, Princess Anne shared a moving tribute to her and said it was an 'honour' to accompany her body from Scotland back to London.
In full, Anne's statement reads: "I was fortunate to share the last 24 hours of my dearest Mother’s life. It has been an honour and a privilege to accompany her on her final journeys. Witnessing the love and respect shown by so many on these journeys has been both humbling and uplifting."
"We will all share unique memories. I offer my thanks to each and every one who share our sense of loss. We may have been reminded how much of her presence and contribution to our national identity we took for granted. I am also so grateful for the support and understanding offered to my dear brother Charles as he accepts the added responsibilities of The Monarch. To my mother, The Queen, thank you."
Following Queen Elizabeth II's death, her eldest son, King Charles III, ascended to the throne. In his first public address as reigning monarch, His Majesty thanked his mother for both her 70 years of public service and her love and guidance as a parent.
