Naomi Campbell has thanked all the "amazing people" in her life for "enduring" her "through thick and thin" after celebrating turning 50 last week (May 22).

The supermodel shared a photo of herself reclining on her sofa while surrounded by lavish bouquets of flowers on Instagram, and admitted that she never thought she'd reach the milestone birthday in an accompanying post.

"I would like to firstly say THANK YOU for all the birthday love, well wishes and blessings!" the star began her message.

"I'm so thankful to have amazing people in my life and grateful for all 50 of my years on this beautiful planet, I honestly did not think I would get here, for those of you who endured me through thick and thin, the ups and downs, for my recovery family, who keep me on the straight and narrow, who stand discretely by side I am eternally grateful."

Campbell said she constantly reminds herself that she is "a work in progress", and credited her supportive network for sticking by her and making her who she is today.

She concluded by thanking her mother Valerie for her invaluable "life lessons".

"My journey so far has been extremely colourful, always reminding myself I am a work in progress, growing and learning every day," she continued.

"Without you all I would not be here, there would be no Naomi and those of you, (you know who you are) your honesty, consistency and embrace means the world to me. I Love you all and know how much you all mean to me... And Mum thank you for me giving life and life lessons."

Last month, Campbell shared a video clip of her iconic catwalk fall in 1993 to offer fans motivation to keep going during the coronavirus pandemic.

The supermodel was 23 at the time and wearing extremely high Vivienne Westwood platforms when she took a dramatic tumble on the runway. She managed to laugh it off before regaining her composure and completing the walk.

Along with the video, Campbell added the Nelson Mandela quote: "Do not judge me by my successes, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again."

Many Happy Returns, Naomi!
