Mum's simple warning after family's home goes up in flames

Perth mum Tahnee Rodgers believes a few simple safety checks could save other families from facing the same disastrous fate.

A Perth mum has issued an urgent safety warning in hope other families will avoid the same fate as her own after a fire completely engulfed her home on Wednesday, leaving only "three items" salvageable from the destroyed property.

Smoke had already started to accumulate in the South Lake home when the fire alarm went off.

"The alarm started going 'whoop whoop whoop' and then that's when we seen the big yellow flame and we had to get out," Tahnee Rodgers told 9News. "Everything is heat damaged ... My children have no clothes, no shoes — there's nothing left."

Tahnee and her four children were able to escape the fire, however, their possessions have been destroyed.

She has warned others to conduct simple safety checks before heading off to sleep and being diligent with routine electronic checks if they want to avoid the ordeal her family are now going through.

"People need to check that their power points are off. They need to make sure that they're getting their electronics always checked," the distraught mum said.

Firies swift response to Perth home fire

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services confirmed to Yahoo News Australia they were notified of a "power cord and bed on fire" inside the property around 8pm.

The fire is believed to have first started from a powerpoint due to an electrical fault, before quickly spreading to other areas of the home.
