Greta Thunberg and Donald Trump have never been close, let's put it that way. And on the day Donald Trump left the White House for the final time as President of the United States, the 18-year-old climate change activist had some final, parting words for him.

Sharing a photograph on Twitter of 74-year-old Trump on the steps of Marine One, the helicopter transporting him away from the White House for the last time, Greta wrote: "He seems like a very happy old man looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!"

Her sarcastic words are, of course, a reference to the time the elderly world leader took to Twitter (this was before he was banned from practically all social media, obviously) to rib the then-16-year-old following her speech at the UN Climate Summit. Sharing a video of her address, Trump captioned it: "She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!"

In response, Greta updated her Twitter bio at the time to read: "A very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future."

And so the jibes have continued ever since, with the president going on to tweet months later that the young woman should address her "anger management problem," and telling her to "Chill Greta, chill!"

Naturally, following that cool blow, Greta Thunberg retaliated by sharing one of Trump's unfounded "STOP THE COUNT!" tweets about the so-called fraudulent election, and writing: "So ridiculous. Donald must work on his Anger Management problem, then go to a good old fashioned movie with a friend! Chill Donald, Chill!"

Despite Donald Trump's now-permanent absence on Twitter, it was still fitting that today Greta Thunberg had one last dig using his very own words on the platform. And it looks like her followers appreciated the witty clap-back. "You've been Greta Thun-burned!" wrote one person, while another commented: "Well played," alongside the fire emoji.

In one final snub to his successor Joe Biden, Donald Trump refused to abide by tradition and attend the inauguration of the new president. Instead, with Frank Sinatra's My Way playing out loud, he departed the White House via helicopter, heading to Florida where he will live at his Mar-a-Lago resort. A White House spokesman has confirmed that Trump has left a letter for Biden, but it remains to be seen what that says.

Earlier today, new US President Joe Biden tweeted: "It’s a new day in America." It sure is.
