All of these celebrity Earth Day posts are helping us get through quarantine

This Earth Day looks a little different. With the stay-at-home orders due to the current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we’ve all been spending a little less time in the great outdoors. Plus, social distancing has limited our interactions with another large part of the natural world: humans. So, everyone has had to make some adjustments. The digital world, however, has kept the Earth Day festivities going and all the reminders of togetherness are helping us get through quarantine.

Climate activists are leading a 72-hour livestream (which you can still join here) to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day and encourage viewers to take action to fight climate change. The lineup includes a long list of celebrity speakers like Jane Fonda and Joaquin Phoenix and musical performers like Questlove and Jason Mraz. For another way to celebrate, an artist and animator put together a digital film and poetry program with the theme of the environment, which you can view on Vimeo through Sunday. And of course, social feeds have been flooded with photos of Mother Nature along with appreciative messages for the land, passionate calls to action, or sometimes simply, “Happy Earth Day.”

Ashley Graham

Ashley Graham wrote that she’s been feeling extra grateful for nature these days. She shared a tranquil video from last year of herself out on the water in Mexico, writing that this was right after she found out she was pregnant. “Let’s all do our part and love our mama 🌎 so that our children and their children can enjoy this beautiful planet!” she wrote.

Lizzo

Lizzo shared a dreamy, sparkly video of her living it up with…we’ll let her say it: “The earth the earth the earth the earth the earth the earth… and I cannot stress enough, the EARTH. 🌍”

Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway wrote a love poem to Mother Nature herself: “Love you Mama, you sexy everything. Thank you for life and for being the most astonishing place to get to call home.” Absolute poetry.

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus posted a series of three videos set to old but timely songs she wrote. “Was reflecting on earth day and thought back to this song I wrote and released in 2008, and feel like these words are truer than ever!” she wrote. The lyrics send a similar message to what many have been saying during the pandemic: “Wake up America / We’re all in this together / It’s our home so let’s take care of it.”

Tracee Ellis Ross

In this adorably wholesome video, Ellis Ross sent salutations and whispered “thank you” to the trees around her. “Thank you to our planet. Happy Earth Day!” she wrote.

Hailey Bieber

Hailey Bieber kept it simple with some stunning pics of nature and the caption, “🌍🌍❤️❤️.”

Britney Spears

Britney Spears’ Instagram is a gift to the Earth everyday, so we were happy to see she joined in on the Earth Day posts. “So blessed to live here ✨🌸🌳💗🌸🌸 !!!!!!!!” she wrote.

Camila Mendes

Camila Mendes’ caption summed up what a majority of Earth Day posts really are: “a photo of earth and me on it.”

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez shared a photo of herself in one of those white bathing suits she loves so much (and wears so well) along with a message for her followers. “Mother Earth 🌿💧…. Be conscious of how you treat her. Love her and she will keep you forever.”

Alicia Keys

Alicia Keys, the woman we would cast to play Mother Nature in a film, shared a sweet poem to celebrate Earth Day. She also shared a mindful reminder to followers: “Mama needs all of our love and she’s making sure we slow down and pay attention…Let’s take care of each other and our home.”

Laura Dern

Laura Dern decided to get her hands dirty for Earth Day. She did some planting “to give back to our mother,” she wrote.

Hilary Duff

Hilary Duff reminisced on a hiking adventure she had with her husband. “I remember @matthewkoma casually asking how much further .. and when our guide easily threw over her shoulder “just two and half hours more” …I would pay money to watch Matt register if she was joking or not!”

Just because Earth Day 2020 is over doesn’t mean we can’t keep celebrating Mother Nature.
